Joe was first introduced to motorsports at a very young age by his uncle, who had friends involved in full scale mud drag racing. Anytime the NHRA tour was within driving distance Joe's uncle (Rod) would get pit passes so they could be close to the action. Joe's uncle would also regularly take him to the San Jose Speedway to watch the sprint car races, resulting in Joe's hardcore addiction to 4 wide salutes! Many car shows were attended as well. Rod also got Joe his first r/c car...called a "Lobo" one year for Christmas. Joe's first "hobby level" R/C car was also given to him by his uncle--a Tamiya Grasshopper! Joe simply drove the wheels off that thing until it eventually "gave up the ghost" and had to be retired a few years later. Joe's next R/C vehicle was the Tamiya Stadium Blitzer. It was with this truck Joe had his first race at Cloverdale R/C Raceway. Joe even went on to win his first offroad race with that very truck at one of the annual "Halloween Spookout" Races. This was in 1992 or so. The Stadium Blitzer was eventually traded away for an RC10 "Championship Edition" ride and then in 1995 or Joe got his first RC10 "Team Truck". This truck served him well racking up many stock truck top threes at tracks all over Northern California. Joe credits the guys he was racing with at the time for much of his early success. Bob Ulee, Bob Russel, Tom Kelly, Greg Penning, Rob Haskell and Sherman Wong to name a few. Joe did take a break for a couple years from 1998 to 2001 or so before coming back for good. He also picked up an R/C Plane addiction during this time and still flies a little these days. In the end, Joe found that he prefers to burn rubber more than burning holes in the sky. Though he does insist that R/C Planes are a great way to relax....when they work right. Joe has driven and/or raced just about every type of R/C car imaginable from 1/10 pan cars all the way up to 1/8 nitro offroad. His current collection of cars is sitting at 14 and despite his best efforts, continues to grow.
