About David Noland

Started on the Kit Drums and graduated to true percussion. Converting my skills to hand percussion. With no background to the Afro Latin Cuban scene it was tough transition. I play for the love of the music!

Wow, this has been a great experience. I’ve been drumming with Dave for about a month now. We’re total beginners but moving along pretty fast. When I see what Dave can do, it’s just a little motivation to keep on practicing. Dave is really awesome about insisting on getting the fundamentals right. It’s going to make me a good (hopefully great) drummer someday. After a couple years of just banging on a djembe, I feel that I’m moving in a scholarly direction in the great art form of drumming and that I’m getting there. We’re working on the Abakuah. It’s an Afro-Cuban rhythm in 6/8 time. I had no idea how these rhythms can shift around. I’m lovin’ it!
