Last night we had the latest of our weekly drum lessons. We continue to work on our two rhythms, the Abakua and the Yanvalou. As we practice, we concentrate on our technique and getting the correct tones. When the four of us are in sync, it is sweet music that anybody would appreciate. We want to reach a point that any of us can play any of the drum parts or any of the bell patterns and it sounds equally as good. We have a ways to go, but Dave Noland is moving us towards that goal. What a great studio set up he has for budding percussionists. We need a couple more drummers to join us so that we can play all six parts of the Abakua and other traditional rhythms that we will be learning soon.
